I wanted to just leave this as a post on The Hathor Legacy, since they're a feminist site about critiquing the media and whatnot, but my browser is fucking up and when I try to leave a post it says ERROR for some reason.

AAAANYWHOOOO, there's a Sex and the City mini-marathon playing on E! right now and I just saw the episode where Miranda gets pregnant by Steve after having feel-better sex with him 'cuz he lost a testicle to cancer. She plans on having an abortion without telling him and Charlotte's all pissed 'cuz she's been trying for a baby with Trey but she's infertile/has a 15% chance of conception.
Carrie ends up telling her boyfriend (and Steve's friend) Aiden about this and he's all like, "BAWWW WHAT ABOUT TEH MENZ SHE CAN'T DO THIS IT'S HIS BABY TOO THE MEN GET THE SHORT END OF THE STICK HERP DERP".

TL;DR - Miranda ends up getting all guilt-tripped about it and keeps the baby for everyone else's sake but her own. >_>

At the end of the ep, Carrie admits to Aiden that when she was 22 she had unprotected sex with some guy who was a roller-skates riding waiter at a FuddRucker's or some shit and she got an abortion. Aiden's all like, "HAY, BACK IN THE DAY I WAS NO ANGEL EITHER" (as if getting an abortion is TEH EBIL~!!1one) and then they go out to dinner or something.

Considering how Republicans have been slowly but surely chipping away at Roe v. Wade (and the fact that women hardly have any bodily autonomy in this world to begin with) this just left a bad taste in my mouth.

this is pretty acurate since most abortions are so women don't have to change their life style.

You made Sex and the City sound just how I thought it was: mindless. >3< I do hate a majority of television shows, really. This episode sounds like the whole concept of the Secret Life of the American Teenage; I mean, pregnancy and whatnot, not necessarily abortion. That show is kind of demeaning to every other teen in the American state that isn't like that.

Sorry, derailed a bit off topic...

I've never watched Sex and the City, and now I have even less incentive to.

I have no problem with abortion, my problem is with people who use it as a form of contraception.
As for men and their rights as far as abortion goes... well it should be the decision of the mother if she wishes to involve them. Most cases of abortion I have come in contact with were actually because the 'boyfriend' insisted or threathened to leave if they didn't.

...Um, abortion IS a form of contraception.

What I meant was that abortion should not be used to replace the condom or other more common forms of contraception.

It's really none of your business (or anyone else's) what people use as their "contraception". You could use a clothes hanger for all I care. Well actually no, everyone everywhere should have safe, clean equal access to all forms of contraception (condoms, the pill, those nuva-ring thingys, and yes, even abortion) so having to use a clothes hanger doesn't happen.[/soapbox]

I didn't mean that abortion should not be available, in fact I said quite the opposite, I am glad that there is such a thing but I "personally" don't like the idea of it being taken lightly. I think it should be something that is concidered properly before done. I have spoken to several people who didn't use a condom because they didn't like the feeling and when faced with the risk of pregnancy they just said: "I can always abort it later."

The idea of something like that makes shudders run down my spine.
And yes, you are right it is none of my buisness if people decide to abort or use a clothes hanger or whatever, we were questioned about our opinion, which is exactly what I offered, and if my opinion is not yours than that is fine, because that is the beauty of opinions.

If the thought of riding bareback and getting an abortion later (instead of just using rubbers or taking a morning after pill) sends shivers down your spine, then guess what? YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET AN ABORTION! YOU can just use a condom or something...or keep it. Or give it up for adoption/a surrogate family, whatevs. It's not like we're trying to forcibly sterilize anyone (at least not anymore) or make abortions mandatory against people's will. Are you one of those people who think fetuses count as humans and aborting would be "killing a baby" or something?

I have the feeling as if you feel personally attacked by my comments, perhaps it's the use of caps that gives me that feeling. Which leads me to question wheter or not you are taking this at heart more than you should.
I assure you I am not the president nor will I ever be, so there is no need to worry that my silly opinion is going to change anything about the world we live in. My opinion is based on "my" experience and, I must stress that if you do not share this opinion it is quite alright with me, I will not lose a nights sleep over it because there are people out there whose opinion actually contradict mine whereas yours seems to be pretty much the same, making me wonder why we are even having this discussion.
As I stated before I am fine with abortion, I am fine with people having them, what bugs me is the idea that it is something you go and do without a seconds notice because those people do not respect their own bodies. To concider this surgery as something as simple as a morning afterpill, those things bug me.
